ALPER TUZCU: El Jardín

Composer, guitarist, singer and Berklee professor Alper Tuzcu is presenting songs from his new album El Jardin ("The Garden"), that crosses cultural boundaries. The concert will feature special guest, Catalan cellist and singer Queralt GiraIt from Barcelona. This performance will feature Tuzcu's compositions inspired from some of his favorite poets  and artists including Nazım Hikmet, Astor Piazzolla, Gongora, Komitas, Ibrahim Maalouf and Sting, as well as songs from some from the Mediterranean world and beyond.

Alper Tuzcu

Alper Tuzcu is a composer, producer, and guitarist who creates music that erodes cultural borders. As an artist, he moves comfortably across genres and often blends different influences from around the world.

To date, the Istanbul-born musician has released three albums and has collaborated and recorded songs with Grammy-winning musicians such as Marcelo Woloski (Snarky Puppy), Ganavya (Esperanza Spalding), Ana Rossi, Maria Rodés, and Javier Limón (Paco de Lucía, Wynton Marsalis). His songs have been played on NPR, BBC Radio, and RTVé, among other media channels.

Alper loves performing and has been on the stage at prestigious festivals and venues, including the Umbria Jazz Festival (Italy), youbloomLA Festival (Los Angeles), Shapeshifter Lab (New York), and Sofar Sounds Washington D.C. and Boston.

Alper is currently an Assistant Professor at Berklee College of Music at the Electronic Production and Design department. He graduated from Berklee magna cum laude in 2015 after winning a scholarship at the Umbria Jazz Festival.

Queralt Giralt 


Queralt Giralt Soler is a cellist, composer and music educator from Catalonia. She aims to pursue a creative approach to the cello, playing a wide variety of styles and combining her cello playing with her voice. She has played with renowned artists such as Kenny Barron, Kenny Werner, Joe Lovano and Sílvia Pérez-Cruz, among others. She is also part of the Jazz and Gender Justice Institute led by Terry Line Carrington. Her career in music has led her to study at Berklee College of Music, where she received the prestigious Berklee World Tour Scholarship.
