This year’s program continues the tradition of highlighting emerging and established Turkish filmmakers with several appearances by guest directors. Most of the films make their North America or U.S. premieres at the festival. The festival opens with 61 Days (İftarlık Gazoz), a charming story from the Aegean by filmmaker Yüksel Aksu. Acclaimed actor and director Uğur Yücel is the recipient of this year’s Boston Turkish Film Festival Excellence in Turkish Cinema Award. Award ceremony will take place following the North America premiere of the digitally restored version of Mr. Muhsin (Muhsin Bey), a Turkish cinema classic. The festival concludes with prominent Turkish auteur Zeki Demirkubuz’s latest film, Ember (Kor). The award-winning films of the Boston Turkish Festival Documentary and Short Film Competition, which celebrated its 11th year in 2016, will be screened followed by award presentation to directors, and a panel discussion, moderated by film critic Peter Keough. In the music program of the Festival, we are delighted to present you a very special concert series, which begins on Thursday, April 6th with violinist Jülide Yalçın, the concertmeister of Ankara Presidential Symphony Orchestra, and pianist Elif Önal. On Thursday, April 13th, Burcu Karadağ, first professional female neyzen of Turkey, and internationally acclaimed kanun virtuso Tahir Aydoğdu will be performing in an exceptional concert, preceded by a kanun and ney workshop. Neotolia's album release concert for "Neotolian Song" will be on Saturday, April 22nd, with many distinguished artists joining Neotolia as guest musicians. All concerts will take place at the Goethe-Institut Boston. All films are in Turkish with English subtitles unless otherwise noted. Film program co-presented with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston ALL FILM SCREENINGS WILL TAKE PLACE AT THE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, BOSTON For film screenings, discount tickets are available for seniors, students, and MFA members. Students of the area universities can benefit from $5.00 special ticket price, with the exception of the opening night on Thursday, March 16th and Friday, March 24th.
