Director ÇİĞDEM SEZGİN
Çiğdem Sezgin was born in Istanbul.
She is an award-winning Director, Scriptwriter and Producer based in Istanbul, Turkey.
She completed her BFA and MA in film making at Marmara University Fine Arts Faculty.
She has thirty years of experience in the film industry. She began her career in film as an assistant director on TV series and dramas in 1992.
Since 2014 she has been working as an independent filmmaker in Turkey.
In her films, she likes to focus on male-female relations and women's issues.
Currently, she is preparing for her third film ‘A Day in March’, which will also be the subject for her Phd thesis at the University of Lausanne.
She made her debut film, Kasap Havası (
Wedding Dance) as the scriptwriter, director and producer in 2015. "Wedding Dance" made it's international premiere at the PÖFF, Tallinn Black Night Film Festival, national premiere in Adana Altın Koza Film Festival.
Suna's project was selected in
Mannheim Meeting Place 2017, Transylvania Pitch Stop 2018, and Antalya Film Forum ‘Development Event’ in 2018. It also won the ‘Work in Progress’ big prize in ‘Antalya Film Forum in 2021.
Suna was made by three production companies. The main producer is Betül Sezgin (Kule Film / Turkey), and co-producers are Giovanna Ribes (Taranna Films / Spain),
and Christo Bakalov (Baky Films Ltd. / Bulgaria).
Sezgin plans to make her third movie in a village in northeastern Turkey in 2023. 'A Day in March’ will be the last film of the marriage trilogy .
