Burak Besir, born in Lefkosa, Cyprus, received his early flute lessons at North Cyprus Music and Art Academy and continued his studies at Ankara Hacettepe State Conservatory where he studied with Saki Şarıl and Songul Seidel.
After completing the regular four year undergraduate degree with distinction in three years, Burak went to UK to continue his music career. Studying with David Nicholson, Burak did his masters degree on Performance at Royal Scottish Academy in Scotland.
Burak gave number of concerts at the most distinguished venues and participated as guest artist on various festivals in Europe, Middle East and most recently in US. Receving the UK Young Concert Artist Award in 2003, Burak toured all over UK, Scotland and Wales and gave recitals and concerts as part of the award series. He gave his first debut at Wigmore Hall in London. Some of his performings include B. Carmen Fantasie with Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra in Boston, Nielsen Concerto with Bromley Symphony Orchestra in London, Mercadante Concerto with Scottish Symphony Orchestra in Scotland and Mozart Andante with Istanbul Sisli Symphony Orchestra gala concert. Burak gave number of concerts at Akbank Kültür ve Sanat (Akbank Culture and Art) and appeared on TV channels like TV8, CNN Turk, NTV and BRT
Burak regularly attends to Sir James Galway's masterclasses and works with the master over the years. In 2007 Burak received "The Best Performer 2nd Prize" award from Sir James Galway at International Flute Seminar in Switzerland.
Besides his solo career Burak has held Principal and Second positions at Istanbul State Opera and Ballet and Second Flute position at Istanbul Borusan Philharmony Orchestra from 2003 to December 2007.
Receiving the WST (World Scholarship Tour) scholarship from Berklee College of Music and his talent and interest in composing and contemporary music led him move to Boston. Burak received the 1st Berklee Concerto Competition award in 2008.
In summer 2008, Burak received an invitation from Sir James Galway to perform his Flute Choir arrangement, "La Flute de Pan Op15", at annual masterclass public concert in Switzerland. His first arrangement to the Turkish pop music Diva, Sezen Aksu was performed in Istanbul with Istanbul Symphony Orchestra in November 2009.
At present Burak continues his studies on Contemporary Writing and Production at Berklee College of Music and plays at the Berklee Contemporary Symphony Orchestra, and Video Game Orchestra as Principal Flute. He also continues solo and orchestral performance and gives number of concerts in US and Europe each year.
